In the March Issue of the West Cork People, as part of their International Women’s Day feature, I was asked to write about who has inspired me the most #nobrainer, it is of course my wonderful mum, Bronwyn Conroy. As we just celebrated International Women’s Day it seems only fitting to share this piece with you….

I don’t even have to think about it when I’m asked who has inspired me the most, it is of course my wonderful mum, Bronwyn Conroy. From her childhood in Salthill, Galway to founding Irelands first ever Beauty Therapy training school (celebrating 46 years of business this month!) she is without doubt, not only an inspiration to me but also to her grandchildren.

Quite the trailblazer and dare I say female entrepreneur of the Seventies, everything she has done for the Beauty Industry in Ireland has to be commended. She pioneered the introduction of CIDESCO, CIBTAC and ITEC qualifications to Ireland. She had a widely read beauty column which appeared in the Sunday Press for 25 years and she also launched her own skincare range into Arnotts Department Store in the early 80’s. That’s just some of it!

She has been a huge influence on my life. From a very young age, she has been my biggest champion, her encouragement, support and love mean everything to me. So much of my own work ethic and success is down to everything I have learnt from her and the opportunities she has given me. She has been a wonderful role model to me and my sister Bronwyn, who not only taught us both about being kind, strong, independent individuals but also, taking from her favourite saying, “every day is for real it’s not a rehearsal, live it!” She inspires me every day, Happy International Women’s Day Mum!
